Elliptical Machine Power Output Calculation
User's power output of elliptical machine can be calculated from the torque applied to the crank and the crank rotation rate.
Power = Torque × Angular Speed
In equation form:
P = T × ω
where P is exercise power in watts (W), T is pedal torque in newton-meters (N·m), and ω is crank angular speed in radians per second (rad/s).
At 60 RPM Crank Rotation Rate
A crank rotation rate of 60 RPM means the crank completes one full rotation per second. Since one full rotation is 2π radians, the angular speed is:
ω = 2π rad/s ≈ 6.283 rad/s
Therefore, at 60 RPM:
P = T × 6.283
For example, if the measured pedal torque is 43 N·m:
P = 43 × 6.283 ≈ 270 W
This means that a pedal torque of 43 N·m at 60 RPM corresponds to approximately 270 watts of mechanical exercise power.
Note: This calculation uses crank torque and crank rotation rate. It represents mechanical power at the pedal crank, not electrical power consumption from the wall.
