The Initial Concept
The initial concept of developing the LB007 was to create a compact elliptical machine with a decent pedal motion geometry and smooth resistance, targeting home-fitness market.
The Opportunity
Elliptical machines are usually large and heavy, which largely limit them to be used in home. Manufacturers make compact versions to attract home-fitness users. However, many are designed with compromised pedal motion geometry in order to reduce the machine frame. Some models adopt a scaled-down flywheel, sacrificing the smooth resistance and low-impact features.
This situation provides a good opportunity for a compact elliptical machine and yet designed for serious fitness applications.
A Different Approach: Flywheel Speed
Most elliptical machines are bar-linkage design, where the pedal directly drive the flywheel, and the flywheel rotates at the same speed as the pedal stroke rate – low speed. Such a design requires a large flywheel to maintain sufficient kinetic energy for motion continuity and resistance smoothness.
However, there is another approach to maintain the needed kinetic energy - flywheel speed.
LB007 is based on this approach.
The Solution: Two-stage Transmission
Unlike conventional elliptical machines, in which the pedals directly drive the flywheel, LB007 uses a two-stage transmission that raises the flywheel speed by 15 times.
The Results
A Serious Elliptical with a Small Footprint
With a small flywheel and a compact two-stage transmission drivetrain, LB007 achieved a small footprint, and yet offer a desired pedal motion geometry and smoother resistance.
Broad Resistance Range
While conventional elliptical machines provide a low resistance range, LB007 provides a broad resistance due to its high KE storage capacity.
The broad resistance range allows more applications from low-resistance aerobic exercise to calorie burn and muscle strength training.

With a compact transmission added between the bar-linkage pedaling mechanism and the flywheel, the LB007 has a unique vertical elliptical pedal motion geometry, compared with most conventional elliptical machines that has a elliptical path predominantly in horizontal direction.
Structure Strength & Endurance
Elliptical machines need to have enough strucuture strength and endure long time dynamic loads.
Many manufacturers claim 400lb or even 600lb load without a proper testing standard support.
For LB007, an ASTM F2810-based testing protocol was developed to validate the structural design, material selection, and mechanical performance for the intended applications. This include a 1,000,000-cycle endurance validation for 250lb load.
It must not fail
Elliptical machines are heavy duty machine, and usually have poor serviceablity. If not properly desinged and manufacturered, structure deformtion and wearing on bearing and coupling can fail the machine. In most cases, they are beyong repair because they are very difficult to dissaaseble and repair labor cost can exceed the machine value.
Designed to Avoid Failure
Unlike many household products, an elliptical machine is generally not designed to be user-serviceable. Its drivetrain consists of tightly integrated shafts, bearings, pulleys, belts, and linkages assembled within a heavy steel frame. Accessing internal components often requires extensive disassembly, specialized tools, and careful realignment during reassembly.
Even if a machine can be repaired, returning it for service is often impractical. Once assembled, a heavy elliptical is difficult to disassemble, repack, and ship without risking additional damage. For this reason, the engineering priority should not be to make repairs easier, but to minimize the likelihood that repairs will ever be needed.
This philosophy places greater emphasis on structural design, component quality, manufacturing consistency, and endurance validation. For an elliptical machine, reliability is not simply a desirable feature—it is a fundamental part of good engineering.
